Five Ways to Pump up Your Image, Part 1

Marketing psychologists have shown that color accounts for 60 percent of the acceptance or rejection of a product or person, so color decisions are critical to the success or failure of an encounter or sale. You need to wear the right colors in order to send the right message. For example, would you feel more comfortable opening a bank account with a manager who was wearing a hot pink flowered dress or a navy blue suit? Hot pink sends a message of youth, fun, and an "I want to party" while navy blue says "I'm in charge here and you can count on me." These messages are subliminal, so your subconscious mind will register them without your realizing it. Other color messages? Yellow and orange are not professional colors and won't be taken seriously. Purple is the wrong color to wear if you sell life insurance because it doesn't suggest stability, but it's great if you want people to see you as creative. Red will get attention, but you won't be seen as a team player. Black is powerful, but it tends to keep people at a distance. Only you can decide which messages you want to send, and isn't it nice to know that you can have some control over the process?
