Five Ways to Pump up Your Image, Intro

You might say to yourself, "I'm competent, experienced, and I provide great customer service. That's all I need to have a good image, right?" Wrong! If you think the way you look doesn't affect your business, think again. Studies have shown that a first and lasting impression is made with a matter of seconds, and that it's extremely difficult to reverse that impression once it's made. While we'd like people to do business with us because of our wonderful personalities or because we're the best in our field, it simply doesn't always happen that way. We may not like it, but we're sized up immediately by the way we present ourselves visually. Many decisions as to how people want to relate to us are already made before we even open our mouths. This is not about being beautiful or handsome--we're not talking Hollywood glamour here. But, the difference between getting a client/sale/promotion--or not--is powerfully affected by knowing how to dress and groom ourselves. Of course, you have to be able to follow it up with competence, quality, and excellent client relationships.
